Job title:            Volunteer Coordinator – Combat Isolation

Location:          City Centre office with possible travel across Sefton and Liverpool, flexible home working

Hours:               14 hours – part-time – fixed term until 31st March 2025 initially with a possible extension dependent on funding

Holidays:           5.6 weeks inclusive of bank holidays (pro rata for part time staff)

Salary:                £8,736 per annum

Combat Isolation is a bespoke service based across Liverpool, Sefton and Kirkby. The team supports older adults age 50+ diagnosed with functional mental illness who have been affected by loneliness and isolation exacerbated by the impact of Covid. The service has been designed to build confidence and increase independence through delivery of one-to-one support together with supporting the delivery of drop-in sessions, community-based activities and volunteer befriending.

The Volunteer Coordinator will work collaboratively with the Combat Isolation team, overseeing the recruitment and retainment of volunteer befrienders from application through to client matching. This will include processing applications, conducting informal interviews, managing the DBS process and supporting with organising volunteer training. The post holder would be the main point of contact for those currently volunteering for the service, dealing with any queries they may have during their time with the service.

You will have an interest in supporting volunteers and/or people living with mental health conditions, taking a compassionate approach and maintain confidentiality and data protection at all times. You should be confident in multitasking and time management. You will be an excellent communicator and able to maintain positive working relationships with volunteers and outside agencies. You will be confident working without close supervision and be able to complete time-sensitive tasks.



  1. Oversee the team of existing volunteers acting as a main point of contact and maintaining regular communication
  2. Oversee the recruitment of new volunteers with support from the Team Leader, including assessing applications, conducting informal interviews and supporting volunteers through the DBS process
  3. Assist the Team Leader in organising and delivering volunteer training
  4. Organise opportunities for volunteers to come together and be celebrated for their contributions throughout the year, including during Volunteer Week in June
  5. Work towards a specified recruitment and matching target
  6. Attending events to promote the service to generate interest in the volunteering role
  7. Manage volunteer vacancies posted on external agencies sites
  8. Strictly adhere to the organisations confidentiality and GDPR policy and procedures
  9. Respecting the individuality, equality and diversity of clients and volunteers coming into contact with the organisation
  10. Participating in relevant training and professional development as required
