About Age Concern Liverpool & Sefton

Age Concern is an independent charity supporting older people in Liverpool and Sefton to live happy, healthy, fulfilled lives.

Our Mission

To promote happy, healthy, fulfilled lives for older people by creating opportunities to connect with others, discover purpose, make a contribution and through provision of exceptional care and support services.

Who are we

The organisation was the very first Age Concern type charity in the world, founded in 1928 by the social pioneer, Eleanor Rathbone. Age Concern in Southport was launched in 1963 and in 2008 Age Concern Liverpool and Age Concern Southport merged to become Age Concern Liverpool & Sefton.

In 2014 the charity was awarded the freedom of the City of Liverpool in recognition of the high quality work it undertakes with local older people.

What do we do

Friendship and Support
We support older people through a range of friendship and reablement services and an activity programme designed to keep people connected, healthy and active. Our services are delivered via 1:1 and group support and are available to older people aged 50+ living in Liverpool and Sefton.

Specialist Care
We support older people with a functional mental health diagnosis in our specialist  care nursing home ‘The Hamlets.’

Information and Advice
Our information and advice service is delivered via telephone, offering valuable advice and guidance on a range of issues. Where more specialist advice is needed, we will signpost onto appropriate partners. We can recommend traders from handymen to decorators from our trusted local trades register. This service is invaluable to older people who don’t have strong networks of support, and for those who wish to discuss matters outside of their support networks.

Financial & Home Support We offer a range of financial and home support products to help our clients plan confidently for their future and live a safer, independent life at home. These services are delivered by trusted and qualified partner organisations who are external to Age Concern Liverpool & Sefton.

How are we funded

We are supported by charitable grants and donations from the public (i.e. wills and gifts). We rely on your support to keep serving older people in the community and we are always looking for help with our fundraising efforts.
